Stupid Slug
It is known that a cartoonist can take inspiration from events that surround them. This is one example. Birks had a rather bad slug problem where he used to live. It was quite repulsive. It weighed on the mind rather a lot, and this character is a result of the whole ordeal.
These 'toons were originally birthday cards given to close friends.
