Out With It!

This is the first issue of Out With It!, the newsletter for a gay youth group called Oasis. It has been distributed to other youth groups and projects and also pubs. The format is in black and white, to keep reproduction costs down. It is printed on both sides of A4, then folded in half to make an A5 booklet.
It consists of several sections, each produced by members of Oasis, including a news section telling what the group has been up to, a coming out story, an amusing 'horrorscopes' listings, and a Birks cartoon strip. These different parts were emailed to the Birks, who also gave the newsletter a look.
Created using Photoshop and CorelDraw, the newsletter was assembled and given a look in just three hours. The logo consists of curves at either side which represent waves, which inspiration was taken from the name Oasis, with images of water and ripples.
Birks chose the A5 booklet format to make it more appealing than just one solitary sheet of A4. True, it is only one sheet of A4, but an A5 booklet seems more than one sheet of A4, if you see what I mean.
The cartoon featured in this issue is displayed in full in the cartoon pages. Click on the link to see it. The other link takes you to the Oasis website.
